South peak
今日はマウント・ビーコンの南の頂上まで登って来た。
マウント・ビーコンには北と南に２つの頂上があり、南の頂上は先月登った北の頂上よりも少し高い。３６０度広がる山々のシルエットが初夏の霞にとけ込むように続いている景色が実に美しかった。
I climbed south peak of Mt. Beacon today.
The mountain has two peaks in north and south, and the south peak is little higher than the north peak where I went last time. The 360 degree view from the peak was just breathtaking with the layers of mountain silhouettes vanishing into the hazy atmosphere of early summer.

Mount Beacon
先日、突然思いつきマウントビーコンへ初めて登ってきた。
花粉症がすこし気になったが、町の南に位置する柔らかな新緑の木々に包まれた標高４６７メートルのなだらかな山の上まで歩いてみたい気持ちになり、水だけ持って気軽に出かけた。
山道は下から見ていたよりも少し険しかったが、１時間弱でビーコンの町とハドソン川を一望に見下ろせる頂上に着き、南西に連なるアパラチア山脈の一部も素晴らしい眺望だった。
半日あればゆっくりと往復できるコースなので、これからまた度々訪れてみたいと思う。
All of a sudden, I decided to climb the mount Beacon yesterday for the first time. Although I was little concerned with my hay fever, the mountain that stands just south of the town covered with soft greens of new leaves was so inviting. A bottle of water was enough to bring to climb 1,531 feet peak with a gentle slope. The slope was little steeper then it looked from the bottom, but it took less than an hour to reach the peak that has a wonderful vista of a town of Beacon and the Hudson River. A part of Appalachian laid toward southwest was marvelous as well. Since it’s just a half day trip, I’d like to visit there again.

Moving
いままではアトリエのあるビーコンと生活の拠点であったブルックリンを往復しながら制作をしていたのだが、マンハッタンにある仕事先も新しくオフィスをビーコンに開設することになり、この際生活の拠点もビーコンへ移すことにした。
大きく生活のパターンが変わるわけだが、アトリエで過ごせる時間が増えるのは有り難い。
The office where I have been working in Manhattan will have a new office in Beacon. I have been going back and forth between Brooklyn and Beacon for years. But we have decided to make a house in Beacon where I keep my studio as a primary residence.
It will be a big change, but I'm glad to be able to spend more time in the studio with my family.

大きく生活のパターンが変わるわけだが、アトリエで過ごせる時間が増えるのは有り難い。

Smell of fall
１０月に入ってもかなり暖かい日が続いていたが、二日ほど前に冷たい空気が入り込んできて雷が通り過ぎると突然涼しくなってきた。
これからしばらくこのあたりの紅葉が綺麗なる。
枯れ葉の匂いなのだろうか、秋の匂いというのがあるような気がする。
It had been a warm October until a couple of days ago when a cool air moved into this area with a small thunderstorm.
The foliage around here will be very nice for a couple of weeks.
There seems to be this particular smell of fall in the air. Maybe it's because of the falling leaves.

Fine Weather
先週は雨が多かったが、ここ数日はよく晴れた日が続き湿度も低く気持ちが良い。
暑くもなく寒くもなく仕事もはかどる。
ハドソン川に浮かぶボートが気持ち良さそうだった。
There were lots of rain last week. But it has been very fine weather last few days.
Not too hot not too cold, you get lot done in a weather like this.
Those boats floating on the Hudson river looked so comfortable.
