Pinhole Camera
天窓のすぐ下にイーゼルを置いてあるので、よく晴れた昼間は天窓から入ってくる光だけで制作している。北向きの窓だから直射日光は入ってこないのだが、今日ふと床を見たら場所によって明るかったり暗かったりしていることに気がついた。明るくなっている場所にいって天窓を見上げてみたら、そこには真っ白な雲が浮かんでいて、暗いところから見るとよく澄んだ青空だった。よく考えてみれば、白い雲の方が効率よく太陽の光を反射するわけだからあたりまえなのだが、天窓がピンホールカメラの穴のような役目をすることにちょっと驚いた。
うっすらと床に写される空模様がゆっくりと変わっていくの見ているのも面白い。
Since an easel is placed right under the skylight, I can paint with a natural right during a sunny day time. The skylight is facing north, so there is no direct sunlight coming in. Today, I found an uneven pattern of light and dark on the floor. As I looked up standing in the light area, I could see a white cloud through the skylight. And when I stood in the dark area and looked up the window, it was a clear blue sky filling up the square opening. If you think about it, it makes sense that white clouds reflect sunlight more efficiently than blue sky. But I was little bit surprised by the fact that a skylight could act as a hole of pinhole camera.
It was interesting to see a faint pattern of the sky changing slowly on a floor of my studio.
