Tone of a word
制作の途中でよく辞書を開くことがある。
画面上に漂う色や形のイメージを言葉として定着させたいと思うとき、自分が今もっている語彙では間に合わないと感じるからである。
辞書の中で偶然出会う言葉によって作品がまた新しい方向に展開することもある。
言葉にはもちろん必ず意味があるのだが、意味だけでなくその言葉のもっている音の響きも大切にしたい。
I often open the pages of a dictionary while I paint.
Because every so often I feel short-handed with my vocabulary when I'm trying to articulate what's going on with the colors and the shapes on a painting.
sometimes, an encounter of a word can open up a new direction for the painting as well.
Not only the meaning of it, I'd also like to pay close attention to the tone of a word.
