Landscape
油絵を始めた頃は風景画を描くのが好きだった。
風景と向かい合い、目の前に広がる光景をとにかくキャンバスに写しとっていたと思う。
しかし、その時の心情、体感する温度、複雑に混ざりながら耳に入ってくる音、風の匂い、
同じ風景から思い起こされる記憶、そんなことが気になりだすとただ写し取っているだけでは間に合わなくなるように感じた。
今、こうして抽象的な仕事をしているが、風景としての要素はまだかなり残っていると思う。
When I started to use oil paint, I enjoyed painting landscapes.
I was intent on transferring the view that lies in front of myself onto a canvas.
But after awhile, when I was getting more occupied with the feeling within, the temperature of the air, the mixture of surrounding sounds, the smell of the atmosphere, the memories from the very same landscape I was painting, I started to feel an insufficiency of a straight forward approach to the landscape.
Even now, I think the elements of landscape still remain in my abstract works.
