Thoughts From A Studio

昨年桐生での個展の会期中に８０歳を過ぎた年配の男性がふらっと訪ねてこられた。
その方も絵を描いていらっしゃるようで、丁寧にぼくの作品を見ていただいた後ですこしお話をすることができた。
なんでも昔の桐生の街の風景を記憶だけを頼りに描いていらっしゃるらしい。
その方のお話では１０代の頃の記憶が一番鮮明なのだそうだ。
残念ながら去年はその方の作品を見せていただく機会をもつことが出来なかったが、今年もしまたお会いできたら、是非作品を見せていただきたいと思っている。

When I had a show in Kiryu last year, an old gentleman probably over eighty years old came to visit the gallery when I was there.
I had a chance to talk with him after he took his time looking at my works.
He told me that he had been painting landscapes of old Kiryu purely from his memories.
According to him, the memories from when he was teens were the most vivid.
Unfortunately I didn't have a time to ask him to show me his paintings last year.
Hopefully if I could see him again this year, I'd like to be able to see some of his works.

こんにちは！履歴を辿って参りました。素敵な絵ですね。
着物の柄の様でもあり、花や星のようでもあり。
私も、幼い頃に過ごした町を、記憶を頼りに描いてみたい
と思っています。
まだ、全く手をつけていませんが。
また、遊びに参ります。
