A place of many water
日本から戻って来てすぐにまた用事でウエストコーストに行って来た。
シアトルから飛行機で１時間ほど内陸に入ったところにあるワラワラと言う町に行ったのだが、先住民の言葉で「水の多いところ」という意味だそうだ。
湿度の高いシアトルから山を越えて飛んでいくと眼下には見渡す限りの麦畑が広がり、その中にぽつんと地下水が湧き出るオアシスのような綺麗な町だった。
日本からの時差ボケを引きずった上にアメリカ国内３時間の時差が重なり、体内時計は狂いっぱなし。
でも、新しい風景をまるで違った空気の中で体験できたことはとても嬉しかった。
Right after coming back from Japan, I had to make a trip to the West Coast.
The town I visited was called Walla walla, it means "a place of many water" in the native American's language.
As I flew inland from Seattle for about an hour, the moisture in the air disappeared and the wheat fields spread out endlessly to the horizon.
Walla walla was like a oasis in a dry land, with a spring of the subterranean water.
Even though my internal clock was totally screwed up from the jet-lag from Japan and the East coast, I was happy to be able to experience very different landscape in a completely unfamiliar atmosphere.
